Jean Luc Bovens
Who is Jean Luc Bovens, founder of AbraSup
Jean Luc BOVENS begins his career as a researcher at the University of Liège. Convinced that in scientific theory there are foundations of any technology, he undertakes a doctoral thesis in engineering, in which he develops on computer various conceptual models that he confronts with experimental reality. The use of applied mathematics combined with the use of computer-based methods of solving allows him to develop a complex theory on emulsion polymerization and to solve problems of resin manufacture in continuous processes.
For three years he went to Morocco where he taught theories of dynamics, regulation and the use of computers to solve complex chemical problems.
Jean Luc leaves the academic community to join the petrochemical industry at Total, where he worked closely with the research center and production units.
Ambitious, two years later, he joins Kemira as technical director in the fertilizer industry, in charge of for technology and he develops new processes that are implemented in several countries.
He becomes director of the Kemira industrial complex in Belgium at the age of 36. Obtaining exceptional productivity and quality results, Jean Luc developed a reputation as a "trouble shooter". Soon he is appointed as Managing Director in the Netherlands where he straightened the company in charge of the Dutch and German markets.
The business is global, Kemira changes its management concepts and implement a network structure. JL Bovens becomes Vice President Manufacturing and Technology, in charge of global production. He develops a "lean" management system with shared responsibilities. In two years, the group beats all production records while reducing costs and improving safety.
Faced with a declining market, Kemira is changing its strategy and selling part of its business. JL Bovens takes over responsibility for the Continental Europe division as General Manager. But, in disagreement with the strategy he is asked to implement, he opt to become an entrepreneur and creates his own society.
He gives strategic advice in the chemical and sugar industry, carries out international audits, notably in Jordan, where he is reorganizing a company in difficulty, he is acting general manager of Leonidas a chocolate manufacturer, launches " Squarcle "with partners, a company that looks to "disruptive innovation".
Interested in creation and development, he works more and more for SNC-Lavalin, an engineering company that builds industrial projects all over the world. He works as project director and business developer, always in international circles (Vietnam, Algeria, China, Morocco, Jordan, Russia, Canada, Kazakstan, Jordan, Iran, Oman, ...). Then, he supports the companies Kiewit, Prayon, Desmet engineering on different projects. For two years he worked for Tecnimont as Vice President New Business Development.
In 2016, he embarked on artificial intelligence based on neural networks and applied to the chemical industry. This is an "Rupture Innovation", one of the one that changes the world.
Jean-Luc Bovens is a Doctor and Engineer of the University of Liège and holds an MBA from the University of Brussels.
Who is Christian Charlier, member of AbraSup
Christian has a passion for research, development, education, knowledge transfer, computer science as well as technical projects with developing African countries and enjoying local social contacts. As a Chemical Engineer graduate from the University of Liège, he started to work at the university in the department of Chemical Processes Simulation and Validation where he pioneered early research in the applied computer science and where he contributed to developments in thermodynamics and dynamic modeling for the chemical industry.
Christian likes to share his skills and acquire new knowledge; he likes education and after 7 years of research and development, he decided to combine his research with knowledge transfer. He became a professor of computer aided process engineering in applied chemistry at the engineering institute of “HELMo Gramme” where he is still presently active.
In the meantime, he coauthored several articles and opened a company in the Czech Republic to develop further computer software for the chemical industry.
Due to his great interest for the latest developments in computer and applied chemical engineering, Christian is actively participating in ABraSup and helping advance the company.
